Study to Be Quiet
May 2011
by Rev. Brock Miller
When I was in school, I remember that studying was one of my least favorite things to do. I dreaded hearing the awful news that a test was on the way; but I knew that if I wanted to do well and have a passing grade, I would have to study. Studying is preparation, a way to get ready for what lies ahead; and as I grew in the Lord, I learned that tests at school weren’t the only things I would have to study for.
Child of God, this life is full of tests and trials that we must study for. We can’t afford to be unprepared, or we will fail in this final hour. You have to set aside time every day to study the Word of God and prepare yourself to do battle with the enemy. The Apostle Paul instructs, Study to be quiet (I Thessalonians 4:11). In this hustle and bustle world where everyone seems to be caught up with the cares of this life, we must take time to get quiet in the presence of the Lord. There’s nothing in the world like the time you spend fellowshipping with God in His holy presence! It’s a time of studying and a time of preparation. God knows the tests that lie ahead of us, and He seeks to make us ready to face each one. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15).
As God’s children, the Word is our study book. It’s the greatest weapon we have to use against the enemy; and we must always strive to gain as much wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the Word as we possibly can.
Take time to study. You must study to be quiet each day and let the Lord get you ready for the tests of this life. Only through the Lord will you have a passing grade every time.
Love and prayers,
