Jesus said, For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops (Luke 12:2,3). Jesus wants you to know that nothing can be hidden from God. He knows every word you speak, whether it is good or bad; and He knows every action you take.

You may think you can do something in private, and no one will know about it; but God knows all and sees all. You can’t hide anything from Him. When Eve was in the Garden of Eden, I’m sure she thought she was visiting the forbidden tree in secret; but that was not so. God saw each time she went to that tree, and He heard every conversation she had with the serpent.

You may think you can hide things from God, but you can’t hide anything from Him. You may think you are getting away with your secrets, but they will be uncovered one day. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil (Ecclesiastes 12:14).

God Saw the Israelites’ Sin

Every story in the Bible was retold by the Holy Ghost in the ear of the writer, so we can learn from them. Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible, and he definitely wasn’t present when Adam and Eve sinned against God; so how did he know what took place? The Lord revealed it to him just like He revealed the Ten Commandments to Moses when he was up on Mount Sinai.

While Moses was with God in the cloud of His glory, the Israelites were down below committing idolatry. Moses didn’t know that because he couldn’t see what was going on, but God could see what the people were doing. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt (Exodus 32:7,8).

The Israelites underestimated God’s greatness, and they put their trust in an object made of gold instead of in the all-knowing and all-seeing God. You may be putting your trust in a person or in something that is man-made, but God Almighty is the only one you should put all your trust in. He is the one who created you; and He knows everything about you, even how many hairs are on your head.

God Uncovered David’s Sin

Think about the sin of King David when he slept with another man’s wife, and she became pregnant. King David knew he was in trouble when Bathsheba told him about her pregnancy, so he came up with a plan—he decided to bring back Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, from the battlefield to be with his wife. After sleeping with her, Uriah would then think that he had gotten her pregnant. King David was weaving a great web of deceit to try to cover up his sin.

If that plan had worked, the child would have grown up thinking Uriah was his dad instead of David; but the plan didn’t work because Uriah did not sleep with Bathsheba. He didn’t think it was fair to the other soldiers for him to be with his wife when they could not be with their wives.

King David then had to travel further down his dark path of sin, and he devised another plan to have Uriah killed in battle. When that devilish deed was done, David thought he had gotten away with his sin; and he married Bathsheba. He thought all was well until he received a visit from Nathan, a prophet of God. And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. And there came a traveler unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity (II Samuel 12:1–6).

King David was so angry that he was ready to have that man killed; but then Nathan said to David, Thou art the man (II Samuel 12:7). Imagine how David must have felt when he heard that. How many times have you been angry with someone when you had done the same thing they had done?

David Paid for His Sin

Nathan goes on to tell King David what his punishment for his sins was going to be from the Lord. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun (II Samuel 12:10–12).

King David thought he could hide his sins from God and from man, but he could not. In fact, the whole world can now read about his hidden sins in the Bible. If the Lord were to publish your life in the Bible, how would it read? Is there anything in it that would embarrass you?

Some people have a diary, and they keep it under lock and key. They don’t want anyone to read what they write because it includes their private thoughts, but there is no lock that can keep God from knowing what is in your heart and mind. Your life should be an open book to the world that reads like a Bible. It should be full of truth, and the Jesus light must shine through it.

Seek God’s Direction

Integrity and moral goodness are fading away in this world, and you have to be so careful of the people you put your trust in. God wants to protect His children from evildoers, and that is why it is important that you seek God for His divine direction in every decision you make. God can uncover times when someone is trying to deceive you.

Before I became a Christian, my wife, Cathy, and I were looking for tenants to rent our house. I had started a business in another part of Ohio, but we didn’t want to sell our house because we had only owned it for a few years. At that time, Cathy had just started going to Grace Cathedral; and she had given her life to the Lord.

When we began interviewing people as potential renters, it seemed like our choices were very limited. Then one day, I met a man who was dressed very professionally and spoke very well. He was single with no kids and no pets, and he wanted to rent from us. I was excited because he seemed to be exactly what we were looking for in a tenant.

I talked to Cathy, and she was not sure about that man; so she said she was going to pray for God to show us if this was the right person or not. I couldn’t understand why she wasn’t as excited about the man as I was, and she told me appearances can be deceiving; and God knows more than what we can see.

God Answers Sincere Prayers

As Cathy prayed for God’s divine direction, He gave us the thought to check out the place where the man had stated on his application that he was currently living. When I drove by, I saw a very nice home. There was a sign out front, so I decided to call the phone number listed on it.

The homeowner answered; and when I asked about the man who wanted to rent my home, I was told he was being evicted. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe I was on the verge of renting to someone who was in the process of being evicted. I was learning that it pays to look to God for divine direction because He can see what we can’t see.

Of course, that man was no longer an option, but we still had to get a tenant. Cathy received a phone call from someone else who was inquiring about our house, and there was something in the man’s voice that made her ask what church he went to. Cathy normally would not ask such a question, but she felt a connection with that man; and I’m sure it was the anointing in his life.

Well, there was a pause after Cathy asked that question, and the man said, “I go to Grace Cathedral.” Cathy quickly responded back, “So do I”; and I’m sure the man was relieved to hear that. He probably didn’t know what direction the conversation was going to go; but after that, they had a connection.

The man and his wife ended up renting from us, and they were the best tenants we ever had. God was showing us His power and greatness, proving His Word and making Himself real even when I was a sinner. He was letting me know that I couldn’t rely on my own thoughts and opinions because only He knows all and sees all. I was used to looking at man and his outward appearance to make my decisions, but God looks on the heart.

The first man I had talked to thought he had everything covered up and that no one would find out he was being evicted; but I’m thankful that God uncovers people, especially to Christians. If you are a child of God, you must learn to rely on God and His direction. He can protect you from making the wrong decisions.

Examine Your Heart

The prophet Samuel learned about waiting for God’s direction when God sent him to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons to become the next king. When Samuel looked upon Eliab, the elder son, he thought surely God’s anointed was before him; but the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart (I Samuel 16:7).

If there is something in your heart that is not right, God will see it even if man doesn’t. You may think you can get away with your sins, but always remember that God sees all and knows all; and eventually, your sins will find you out. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy (Proverbs 28:13). God knows your heart; and if you are a hypocrite, you will be uncovered. You are hurting yourself, and you are preventing God’s blessings from flowing to you.

Examine your heart right now and let the Holy Spirit show you if you are hiding any secret sins. Are you doing anything you know the Lord wouldn’t be pleased with? The devil is working overtime to get you to become complacent with the Lord and ease up on your dedication to Him.

Be a Living Sacrifice

You can’t conform to this world at any time. You have to be more diligent in your walk with the Lord now than ever before because it is a dangerous hour. Are you holding back and doing things in secret that God wouldn’t approve of? The Bible says, I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings (Jeremiah 17:10). You may be able to hide the true you from people, but you can’t hide it from God.

You must present your body as a living sacrifice to God every day. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:1,2).

If your life does not live up to these two scriptures, then you need to get down to business with God right now. If you are not walking with the Lord every day, say the sinner’s prayer located on pages 5 and 6 of this magazine right now.
