Pilate had an inscription placed over Jesus when they nailed Him to the Cross that read, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS (Matthew 27:37). The Jews did not like that; but Pilate answered, What I have written I have written (John 19:22). Pilate didn’t realize it, but God was the one who was directing him to put that inscription up there because it was a true statement. Jesus was the King of the Jews and the Gentiles. He must be the King of your heart too if you want to make Heaven your home one day.

The Lord never wanted Israel to have a king because He wanted to be their King; but they insisted, Make us a king to judge us like all the nations (I Samuel 8:5). The prophet Samuel told the Israelites it was not the will of God for them to have a king, but the people didn’t care. When you want to be like other people, then you don’t want the will of God. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them (I Samuel 8:7).

The Israelites Wanted Their Way

God was not pleased, but He hearkened unto the will of the people and picked out the best person He could find to be king; and his name was Saul. Saul had good character, and he loved God. He walked uprightly before the Lord and had no ego.

God refused to look into Saul’s future to see what kind of king he would be because He knew He had to trust him. When people go to Calvary to be saved, God doesn’t look into their future to see if they are going to serve Him before He saves them. God wants people to trust Him, so He knows He has to trust those who come to Him.

Sadly, Saul failed God so miserably that he eventually committed suicide, and many of the other Israelite kings failed as well. David took the throne after Saul, and he got another man’s wife pregnant. Then he had that man killed. How awful! Thankfully, he did repent and get back to God.

David’s son Solomon took the throne; and at first, he faithfully followed the Lord. Solomon asked God to give him divine wisdom and knowledge, and the Lord granted his wish. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon (I Kings 4:30,34).

Sadly, Solomon’s humility didn’t last; and in his old age, he took women of ungodly nations to be his wives when God had told him not to. Those women caused him to sell his soul to the devil and worship idols. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God (I Kings 11:4). We have no record that Solomon ever found forgiveness. How sad.

Jesus Came to Earth

Very few of the Old Testament kings stood for God, but the prophets told about one king to come who would stand; and that was King Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He would come with all power from On High, and no power would be able to defeat Him.

The prophet Isaiah said, His (Jesus’) name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). When you have King Jesus, you have it made for eternity.

The shepherds were the first ones to receive the announcement about the arrival of Jesus. They were out on the hillside looking after their flocks by night; and, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:9-11).

King Jesus brings peace to all who will accept Him; and one day, He will bring peace to the whole Earth for one thousand years. There will be no sin, hatred, violence or strife, only righteousness and holiness unto the Lord.

Jesus Brought Righteousness

On the first Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a little donkey; and many of the people wanted to make Him King right then and there. As Jesus rode by, they waved palm branches and threw their coats on the ground in front of Him; but it wasn’t yet God’s time for Him to be King.

Jesus had come to show the love, power and grace of God. He had come to show the will of God and prove to humanity that all can live holy outside of Eden if they have the divine blood of King Jesus inside. He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6).

Many people hate the way of holiness and righteousness. They hate the way of miracles, healings and the divine blood; but they will never get to God’s Heaven like that. Eternal damnation will be their destiny with no more chances to repent. The Bible says, Now is the day of salvation (II Corinthians 6:2). No one is promised tomorrow.

Wise Men Seek the King

Three wise men came from the East looking for the little King Jesus saying, We have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him (Matthew 2:2). They had been following that unusual star for at least two years; and when they finally saw Jesus, they recognized He was a holy, little King. They bowed before Him and gave Him gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Those wise men were very wealthy, yet they traveled on camels for years just to see Jesus. How much effort would you put forth to see King Jesus? You should be willing to sacrifice anything to have Him in your heart.

Unlike the wise men, King Herod was not happy about Jesus and wanted to get rid of Him; so he ordered all the baby boys who were two years old and under to be killed. However, God knew all about what Herod was up to; so the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him (Matthew 2:13).

They had to stay in Egypt until Herod had died, and then the Lord let Joseph know they could return to Israel. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene (Matthew 2:23).

A King of Sacrifice

King Jesus brought so much to Earth, but then He had to go to Calvary. He was beaten, mocked and crowned with thorns; but He did it all for you and me. That crown was our crown, and only the grace of God could take away those thorns.

Have you ever thought about what that crown of thorns represented? They were thorns of God’s curse and judgment upon mankind. They were thorns of all kinds of diseases, afflictions and even death. They were thorns of all the mental bondages that torment and destroy the minds of human beings, and Jesus took all of that upon Himself. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5).

No other King will ever be able to make such a sacrifice and fulfill the prophecies found in the Word of God. Jesus, the only Son of God, laid aside His crown of glory in Heaven that He had worn a trillion years or more to come to Earth as a human baby.

The Jews were expecting a crowned King to come, so they didn’t accept Jesus; but they will accept the Antichrist because the Book of Revelation tells us that man of perdition will come as a king with a crown upon his head and a bow of power in his hands. He will ride a white horse, a symbol of peace; but it is all deceit. There is no peace or love about the Antichrist. His power is that of damnation and destruction.

What Will Jesus Do?

Jesus may not have looked like much, but He was divinity come down from Heaven to save the human race. The Lord told Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). No other king was or has been able to redeem people.

The Lord also said, They shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Matthew 1:23). When God is with you, you have nothing to fear or worry about because our great King holds all your tomorrows in His loving hands. Jesus said, Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself (Matthew 6:34).

Jesus will take all your burdens and supply all your needs. He said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). The Bible also says, But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

King Jesus will take away your sicknesses and diseases. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits…who healeth all thy diseases (Psalm 103:2,3). Jesus even raised the dead. He stood before Lazarus’ tomb and cried, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth (John 11:43, 44).

Jesus then promised He would come again and take His children home. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:3).

The World Must Hear

Jesus is a king who willingly gave His life for all people. He said, No man taketh it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again (John 10:18). He willingly gave Himself into the hands of wicked men, and He gave Himself over to death for three days. When He got ready to come forth from the tomb, He woke up as easily as you would wake up from sleep; and He walked out with the keys of death, hell and the grave. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory (I Corinthians 15:55)? King Jesus had conquered!

This is the King we must tell the world about. Jesus Himself said, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:15-18). That is our King, and He has given us His name to use and all the power of Heaven to back us up.
